Doing A Cleanse: Cutting Out Flour and Sugar
Cutting out flour and sugar seems like a ridiculously easy concept to put into effect doesn't it? Have you ever done it? That's what I thought...
My girlfriend and I went on the wild rose cleanse and I knew it would be a challenge but in the end quit good to clear out the pipes if you know what I mean.
Once we started, it was amazing. I had absolutely no idea how much sugar there is in EVERYTHING. I mean, sure I'm a personal trainer and I know nutrition, so I know what's bad and good but what a surprise. I reach for a bottle of salad dressing, SUGAR. Ketchup? SUGAR! Like coffee? No more sugar. I mean even fish fillets that come in a box have sugar. So we had to make everything from scratch, including the salad dressing. I do like making fresh salsa though.
Now for the flour. Not so bad because it basically comes down to cutting out the breads and that's easy if you have every done the Atkins thing. I actually liked having a rule in place that justified me having a bacon cheeseburger without the bun...That's good for you right? Protein is nutritious....:-)
Anyway the lessons learned are the best part of the cleanse for me. I learned that I need to make nutritious meals and not always count on my girlfriend to feed me...
I also was finally able to kick my caffeine habit. I know, that's terrible but I was taking it by the pot full and really stressing out my nervous system. The cleanse only allows 2 cups of coffee a day and it was like gold. I feel like a million bucks now, but I never would have done it if I didn't go on the cleanse.
I broke the habit of eating out and got into the habit of preparing nutritious meals the day before. This is huge..I wish all my clients did this.
At any rate, doing the cleanse taught me some valuable things and lost me 10 pounds of bodyfat initially with another 2 pounds of weight loss the following week. Not bad and I feel awesome!
